19 of Daniil Medvedev's twenty-one victories have been won on hardcourt
A resurgent Daniil Medvedev claimed his maiden championship for 882 days with a win over Corentin Moutet in the competition championship match.
The athlete, a former world number one, has experienced a challenging year, achieving just one match at the big events and undergoing a difficult moment at the American major.
His varied form on the tennis tour - and struggles with his serving in especial - caused him falling of the elite rankings and finally separating with long-term trainer Gilles Cervara.
Presently collaborating with his coach and Rohan Goetzke, the tennis star has steadily progressed in the recent weeks - climaxing in a tightly fought three-set victory over Frenchman Moutet.
It is the player's maiden championship following the 2023 Rome Masters and maiden on a hard surface from that period of 2023.
The win also signifies Medvedev has won 21 victories at 21 different competitions.
"For the first time I have attended a competition with my two daughters together, so to get a title is really nice," commented world number 14 the champion.
"This championship is in dedication of my second daughter Victoria, because the maiden victory I achieved when my first daughter Alisa was born was for her."
Medvedev, the 2021 US Open champion, had been defeated in his previous six championship matches, featuring in the German tournament in the past months.
His counter-punching approach and regular reactions on the tennis court had caused observers to doubt if his ability to compete at the elite level was concluded.
Yet the 29-year-old has implemented adjustments in the past month, attempting to come to the net and compete aggressively, reinforced by an enhanced serve.
Medvedev came back from a disadvantage in the opening set against the tricky Moutet, taking 4 of the concluding five games to take the lead.
The pair traded service breaks in the following set before Moutet, attempting for his maiden professional victory, took control to create a decider.
Moutet saved four early-game chances in a tight third set before Medvedev broke to fifteen to serve for the match.
Fittingly, the winner clinched victory with a point at the net area, with his opponent incapable to control a shot after a lengthy match.
